Resonate Choral Arts

Resonate Choral Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to building community through creative collaboration. We create projects with local artists and musicians to find new ways for art and choral singing to intersect and amplify each other. Resonate’s treble choir is a supportive place to learn, connect and make meaningful music.

Programs like Homemade Jams have only been possible because of generous donations from our community. Over 95% of funds go directly towards supporting local artists and performances!

Donate here to help us continue making amazing and collaborative art!

Kristin Gordon, director

Kristin Gordon is the founder and director of Resonate Choral Arts. From its inception in 2014, she has worked to make Resonate a place for experimentation—for trying out new art forms, arrangements, and collaborations. She’s proud to have helped build a strong space for musical and interpersonal growth, and art we care about. Kristin is also a multi-instrumentalist songwriter. Her music reflects her love of intricate vocal and instrumental textures and features lyrics that make space for reflection and creating meaning in every day life.

Over the pandemic, she collaborated with members of Resonate to write “What if Saturn Rose?” and create the accompanying virtual choir video. She’s thrilled that this piece is finally being performed by a community who all get to sing in the same room together!

Ali Ippolito

Ali Ippolito has been tickling the ivories since the age of 6. She teaches piano, directs, accompanies and arranges music for a small church choir, and has written and recorded her own music. Her solo album, “We, the Dangerous Weapons,” under the name When the Broken Bow, was released back in May 2012 and features songs which she arranged and produced.

In her spare time, she makes soap with her local soap-making LLC, Critical Bath, does crossword puzzles, knits, plays with herbs, adores her cat, and loves to make anything else for beauty’s and practicality’s sake.

You can find her music on Bandcamp and her soap on Etsy!

Erin Wallace

Erin Wallace can usually be seen fronting Portland bands The Sportin' Lifers, or her independent project, Wallace. But every once in a while she breaks out on her own, reaching back to her solo, acoustic roots. Erin started her musical career busking in the public market in her hometown of Vancouver, BC and continued to hone her personal sound, studying at Boston’s Berklee College of Music and through years of recording, touring and performing. Whether solo or with a full band, her soulful voice stands on its own, and her catchy, crafty songwriting pulls from soul, blues, rock and folk traditions.

Clara Baker

Clara Baker is a songwriter/audio engineer/ musician from Portland, OR. Her sophomore release, Things To Burn (2019), was recorded live to tape in a Wisconsin living room with Grammy-winning engineer Brian Joseph (Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver) and avant-folk experimentalist Shane Leonard (Anna Tivel, Josh Ritter). Atwood Magazine called it “soul-stirring”, and East Portland Blog called it a “must-hear… one of the best albums of 2019.” The process of recording Things To Burn inspired Clara to go back to school and become an audio engineer; she’s spent most of the last four years engineering and producing other artists’ music, working in full-service recording studios and out of her home studio, The Bakery. Clara often plays fiddle in Margo Cilker’s band, and is a guest collaborator in many other folk and Americana groups. She is a voting member of The Recording Academy.

Anny Celsi

Anny was born and raised in North Portland and trained on the burlesque stage by the ringmasters of Portland's legendary Storefront Theater. In her twenties, several inches short of the Vegas showgirl height minimum, she landed in Los Angeles, took up songwriting and co-founded girl/boy band The Tearjerkers. She has toured the UK and Europe eight times, both as a solo artist and with the acoustic psych-pop trio Celsi, Bragg & Maitland. Her style has been described as “beatnik cool,” “pop-noir,” and “slightlydelic pop jangle." Anny is happy to be back living in her hometown, and beyond thrilled to be a part of Resonate Choral Arts!

Avery Hill

Avery Hill is a singer-songwriter, a storyteller, and a teaching artist. Her performances range from thematic presentations to community campfires to a nice old-fashioned “good show.” Integrating intricate melodies with insightful, storytelling lyrics, Avery’s voice is at once both wise and curious, telling and investigating. Her forthcoming album, The One Who Remembers (2024), features songs that are like audio postcards, spanning across a life, looking for the strength we need to step into the future. Help bring this album into the world by donating to her Album Crowdfunding Campaign. Avery also teaches ʻukulele and songwriting in a variety of classes, workshops, retreats, and on YouTube. Mikki Jordan

As a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts Mikki spent fifteen years in NYC devising new works with various independent theater collectives.  Now based in Portland she creates and produces original solo performance projects.  Most recent works include From These Streets I Rise, a documentary performance piece examining Portland’s homeless crisis (CoHo, 2020), and The Keening Revival, a musical meditation on grief (Fertile Ground, 2022).  In addition to her work as a theatre artist, Mikki is a licensed clinical social worker with a private therapy practice.  She also offers private coaching for artists and creatives.

Nik Kemmer

This process of art is a true process of discovery. It's taking a breath, diving deep, and bringing up something to covet along the brambly path toward growth and healing. It could be an insight of the past or an abstract unveiling of the future. It's shaking free those leaves which are no longer bringing in rays of sun and moon. It's coming up from the sea and saying, hello.

Jana Crenshaw

“To say Jana is a natural is an understatement, vigorous at points and softer than dew on a peach the next; her songs lift off and mesmerize the room before you know it.” -South by Southwest

S. and Canada, had a #1 video on LOGO (MTV), and was awarded a RACC (Regional Arts and Culture Council) project grant for ‘More to the Story’ - a 3rd grade musical telling of Portland’s History through a Social Justice lens.

Mack John is a singer-songwriter based in the Pacific Northwest with a voice as intimate and powerful as the stories she tells. Blending Ingrid Michaleson-like eclectic folk-pop vocals with roots-infused rock rhythms reminiscent of Sheryl Crow, Mack’s music is both relatable and uplifting, providing a haven for listeners seeking refuge from societal expectations and an invitation to embrace their authentic selves. Mack also leads a dream rock project called Friends Friends.

KÍmNEMÁ

KÍmNEMÁ ("KIN-eh-muh”) is Jewel Mlnarik (yep, that’s M-L-N “muhl-NAR-ik”), a multi-disciplinary artist and instrumentalist who's called Portland home since 2000. They draw down and craft songs reminiscent of polaroids: brimming with nostalgia, delicate vocals, mesmerizing fingerpicking, and layered truths—inviting time to linger and fade with the print.

“Turning 40 reignited my love affair with writing and music, culminating in the birth of many songs and my debut album, available on Bandcamp and streaming. Since transplanting to Eureka Springs this winter, I’m focusing on my somatic coaching and bodywork practice, recording an expanded compilation of songs, and other tactile creations. Say hi on Instagram or KImNEMA.com —jewels”

Forest Veil

Forest Veil is the solo work of multi-instrumentalist/producer Monica Metzler. Following the echoes of her elusive muse, Forest Veil makes mystical psych-folk that maps the emotional terrain of humanity and its place in the cosmos. Melding a voice that sounds like smokey quartz with psychedelic guitar riffs and enigmatic lyricism, Forest Veil’s sound evokes a haunting nostalgia for other worlds. Though she primarily writes on her own, Forest Veil often records and performs with others. An avid guitarist for over 25 years, Forest Veil's music showcases virtuosic guitar shredding and dynamic musicality.
